Plaistow Hub

Two challenging sites are unlocked either side of a transport node, delivering 182 high-quality homes, enhanced public realm, library, gym, supermarket and two cafes.

Through efficient planning and extensive engagement, proposals for Populo Living balance complex site constraints with the needs of the brief and the local community.

To the south of the railway a new public square and entrance to the existing station will be enlivened by ground floor commercial uses. A 23-storey tower (London Road) will mark the entrance to the station, incorporating 100 new homes. Adjacent buildings will provide a gym, supermarket and café opening on to ‘Station Square’.

To the north of the railway line a new 8- and 15-storey building will provide 82 homes overlooking Valetta Grove Recreation Ground. At the lower levels a new library with community facilities activates both street and park frontages.

A common material palette, selected for longevity and low maintenance, will be used across the new buildings to create a visual connection across the two sites, promoting a distinct sense of place and a new identity around Plaistow Underground.
