Birchmere Community Design
A community led redevelopment of Birchmere Changing Rooms in Thamesmead for Peabody.
Since 2014 Peabody has been working in and around Thamesmead, announcing a £1bn regeneration programme for South Thamesmead in 2016. Part of this programme is to restore and improve the Birchmere Park facilities. A group of residents, The Moorings Neighbourhood Forum, have developed a brief for the Changing Rooms, with the potential to return the building to community use, and encourage more use of a substantial public green space in the process.
We have helped to define the community groups aspirations, creating three costed options through a process of co-design. A preferred option has been selected after workshops and consultation events, led by the residents group.
The scheme will provide changing rooms, toilets, storage, outdoor space, children's play area, cafe and community room.
